ASIAN HATE CRIME HAPPENED JUST BEFORE "JUSTICE FOR PROFESSOR AKI MAEHARA" PRESS CONFERENCE

Los Angeles, CA, 05/22/2025 - An Asian woman who was one of the organizers for the Anti-Asian Hate Crimes Coalition became a victim of an Anti-Asian hate crime while on her way to "Justice for Professor Aki Maehara" press conference.

This incident occurred at or around an hour before the "Justice for Professor Aki Maehara" press conference when an Asian woman (who has experienced Asian Hate Crime on the LA Metro) was getting refreshments and other breakfast supplies at a Ralph's Supermarket in DTLA. The press conference was attended/covered by NBC, many other stations, as well as LAist and National News, Washington Post. The Asian woman was standing in the street along the curb in front of the entrance to Ralph's Supermarket with several bags of supplies, and was waiting to be picked up by another friend transporting Professor Aki Maehara. A silver/grey Mazda 5 drove up the curbside where there were ample open parking spaces. The driver/perpetrator of the Mazda 5 began screaming at the Asian woman and Hurled "CHINK BITCH" as he started to back into the Asian woman with speed. Fortunately, the Asian woman was able to jump out of the way from the speeding vehicle. While startled, was able to capture part of the incident on video and photos. And there was a witness Wilie Wong (Chinatown OverWatch) who saw the Asian woman jump out of the way when the perpetrator tried to run over the Asian woman with his van in front of Ralphs in DTLA.
